Programme 3: GCSE to A Level Further Maths Ready Programme
For students who have finished GCSE and are starting A Level Maths and Further Maths in September. I have over 20 years’ experience of teaching A level Maths and Further Maths, I know the common misconceptions and problems that students find at Key Stage 5. Let me help you get a flying start!!!
The jump from GCSE to A Level Maths can feel huge, add onto that the demands of studying and extra A Level Further Maths, it can potentially feel overwhelming! Believe me I know as I have been in your shoes! With the sessions below you should feel confident in starting your Key Stage 5 journey in September. I certainly do not intend to cover the full course in these sessions, but you will feel confident and prepared for the year ahead.
Who it is for
Students who:
- are starting A Level Further Maths in September
- want to feel prepared before term starts
- are aiming for strong grades
6-session online or in person (depending on location mileage will be charged at 45p per mile) programme at times that is convenient to you! These sessions are available during the last three weeks of the summer holidays (Saturday 8th to Sunday 30th August)
Each session: 75 minutes divided into 60 minutes covering the content, the final 15 minutes will be looking ahead at how these skills will be developed at A Level
Pricing: £40 per session, you can choose from the list below. £200 for all six!
Session plan
Session 1: An intro to complex numbers
Solving quadratics, finding complex solutions, Argand diagrams
Session 2: Matrices
What is a matrix? How can these be used in transformations
Session 3: Calculus
The principles of calculus, what is a volume of revolution?
Session 4: Series
Key notation (also useful in A Level Maths statistics), leading to key results and definitions. Nice topic building on the principles that you will know from linear sequences.
Session 5: Proof
Key principles of proof by induction
Session 6: Vectors
What do you already know from GCSE (probably more than you think!)? Let’s extend that into linear and planar geometry.
** NB there may be the option to swap one or two of these sessions to work on the two optional components of your course but obviously this just depends on what your school have chosen
