About Simon Johnson

Qualified Maths teacher. 23 years of classroom experience. A calm, practical approach to helping students make sense of mathematics.

Experience matters

Simon has spent 23 years teaching Mathematics and understands the difference between knowing a topic and being able to explain it in a way that makes sense to an individual student.

His approach is patient and methodical. When a student is stuck, the starting point is to understand why — whether that is a missing piece of prior knowledge, lack of confidence, difficulty applying a method or uncertainty about what an exam question is asking.

Qualifications & experience

A teacher, not just a tutor

Private tuition is most effective when it gives a student something different from simply repeating the classroom lesson. Simon can slow a topic down, approach it from another direction, identify misconceptions and give the student space to ask questions without pressure.

The aim

Better understanding. More confidence. Stronger independent problem-solving. And, where exams are involved, a clearer idea of how to turn knowledge into marks.

Who Simon works with

Simon offers tuition for GCSE Mathematics, including Foundation and Higher Tier, and A-Level Mathematics. Sessions can be arranged online or in person depending on location and availability.
